To obtain employment in the personal business you have to prove you have the experience and/or education needed to perform the many various duties often associated with such a position. While getting a personal certificate may not be the main reasons a person enters the personal protection trade, having one will certainly be a benefit in gaining employment in the field. However, simply having a personal certificate doesn’t guarantee that a person is qualified. It still depends on where the certificate has been earned and issued that determines their qualifications.
Similar to attending classes at the police academy, the graduate may understand the theory behind many of the policies and procedures without having a real life experience in the field. All the education in the world, attested to by a personal certificate, does not guarantee they will know how to handle any specific crisis that may arise. It also requires actual experience, typically gained by working with others for a number of years.
There are also different needs and requirements in the personal field. Some might require the certification of firearms and others with the certification of using non-lethal means of controlling a situation. In all cases, a personal certificate should have been earned by learning how to assess and diffuse any potential threats within a wide variety of situations.
Hope for The Best, Prepare for the Worst
Many institutions offering personal certificate training always teach their students to be ready for any threatening circumstance. It seems, however, as though there are different types of threats being presented almost on a daily basis. With new types of dangers being presented, it is nearly impossible to plan for every possible scenario, but being able to use deductive reasoning will help the holder of a personal certificate analyze and determine what needs to be done to handle emergencies quickly and efficiently.
Rapid response and risk assessment are probably the two most important parts of any personal certificate training a person can hope for, even if they never have to utilize that training. If a person can go through their entire career assessing and preventing danger for the individuals they have been hired to protect, it could be said that they had a successful career. It is one thing to be able to remove a person from of a danger zone, but quite another thing to aid them in avoiding being in the situation in the first place.
